Connor Benton is a 3rd-year Internal Medicine resident at Georgetown University School of Medicine and he looks forward to serving as Chief Resident next year. He graduated from Georgetown medical school in 2015. He wrote this essay when he was a second-year medical student under the tutelage of Maggi Cary MD who developed and teaches the Narrative Medicine/ Personal Essay course at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Prior to med school, Connor attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He grew up in upstate New York and has loved writing from a young age.
