Five vegetables account for 48% of total vegetable servings consumed by Americans, according to a study Putnam and colleagues in Food Review 2002; 25(3):2-15:

  • Lettuce
  • Frozen potatoes
  • Fresh potatoes
  • Potato chips (potato chips are vegetables???)
  • Canned tomatoes

6 fruits account for 50% of all fruit servings:

  • Orange juice
  • Bananas
  • Apple juice
  • Apples
  • Fresh grapes
  • Watermelon
